OK folks, time for a little meta (sort of…?)
Listen carefully to the soundtrack above. Quite sad, isn’t it? Actually, it is so called John’s theme (plays during his nightmares). In the whole show, we hear it very often. But not this version. This one we can hear only in two scenes and both are in Series 3.
First: When John is watching Sherlock’s video for his birthday. (Many happy returns)
Second: The tarmac scene.(His last vow)
In Many happy returns: The soundtrack plays during the scene where Sherlock is trying to think up what should he say to John. He is struggling very hard and is quite nervous. At the end of the theme, he says "Only lies have details."
In His last vow: The soundtrack plays during the tarmac scene. It starts when Sherlock is responding John how long he’s going to be in Eastern Europe. He lies (he doesn’t tell John that he’s probably going to die). Remember? "Only lies have details." And the theme continues when Sherlock is trying to think up what should he say to John.
Reminds you of something?
So basically, these two scenes are intertwined. This theme represents Sherlock struggling with his real emotions and Sherlock lying to protect John from hurt.
Sorry for my terrible English, I hope you understand everything!
